Maui Island is a part of the state of Hawaii in the United States and is the largest island in Maui County. The latter also includes Lanai Island, Cakhoolawi Island, and Molokai Island.

As of 2010, the population of Maui Island was 144444, second only to Oahu Island and Hawaii.

The largest cities on the island of Maui are Kahului, Kihei, Wailuku, and Makawao. Maui Island is named after the Polynesian demigod Maui – he brought fire to humanity. The Alenuhaha Strait separates Maui Island from Hawaii Island.
